Five New High-rises Proposed for the Sheraton Property (Updated 12/27)

JBG, the owners of the Sheraton and its surrounding land and properties, has submitted a proposal to the County to tear down all existing single-story buildings and replace them with five high-rise residential and commercial buildings, ranging in height from 14 to 18 stories.  Plans also include replacing the 570 surface-level parking spaces with a parking garage with spaces for 2,831 cars.  Two additional traffic lights are planned for Sunrise Valley Drive, one at Roland Clarke Place, and the other at the entrance to the new development.  The total floor area in the buildings will exceed one million square feet.  These five buildings will be in addition to those already under construction and three others planned for Roland Clarke Place.  The project, to be called "Reston Heights," was discussed on October 1 at a meeting of the Reston Planning and Zoning Committee .  Click Here to see a copy of that meeting's agenda, and read item #4.  To see the county's parcel map for the larger of the two land areas, Click Here.  The project was again on the agenda of the Reston Planning and Zoning Committee at their meeting on Monday evening, November 5.  At the meeting, the Committee voted to endorse the project as presented.  The vote was 9 for, 2 against, with one abstention.

The project was on the agenda for public hearing by the Fairfax County Planning Commission at its meeting on November 7.  Cluster residents Fred and Rita Rothwarf attended and testified at that hearing as to the potential for horrible traffic problems on Sunrise Valley Drive if the project were approved in its present form.  In response to their testimony, Hunter Mill Planning Commissioner Frank de la Fe, asked the rest of the Commission to postpone their vote till their next meeting on Wednesday night, November 28.  (Click Here to review or print a copy of the PLANNING Commission's STAFF report.)

The Planning  Commission met on November 28 and approved the project without modification.  The County Board considered the project at an open hearing on January 7.  After hearing testimony from a number of HGC residents and the representatives of JBG in attendance, the Board postponed their vote till their next meeting on January 28.

At the January 28 meeting, the Board of Supervisors approved the project without modification.  Supervisor Cathy Hudgins noted that there were still more steps in the approval process such as consideration by the Reston Association's Design Review Board, and a traffic study prior to beginning any construction.

Landscape Maintenance Master Plan

Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project

At the May 2006 meeting of the HGCA Board of Directors, the Board received a presentation on the status of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project. The presentation was given by Marsha McAllister, Communications Manager for the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.  Her presentation was accompanied by a slide show consisting of 32 screens.  If you wish to view this presentation, follow the instructions in the next paragraph.

You can download the presentation to your computer by RIGHT CLICKING ON THIS LINK.  You will see a pop-up menu box.  In this box, select the third option that reads, "Save Target As...".  You will then see a pop-up box that will allow you to select a directory and file location where you want the presentation to be stored on your computer.  The name of the file to be downloaded will be "Metrorail_Project.pps".  Once the download finishes, you can OPEN or RUN the file to see the presentation.  To advance through the presentation, left-click on each page to go to the next slide.

We do have a warning for you, however.  The presentation file is quite large -- 61 MB in size!  If you have a broadband internet connection, it should take about two minutes to download the whole presentation.  If you have a dial-up connection, you should probably not try to download the presentation -- unless you have an hour or two to burn while it downloads.

Get Your Mail Forwarding Account!

If you are a Hunters Green Cluster homeowner or resident, you and your family members are eligible to have mail-forwarding accounts in the HuntersGreen.org domain.  If you are unfamiliar with the concept, a mail forwarding account allows you to have a username or e-mail identity in a domain (HuntersGreen.org in this case).  For example, you could select "John.Doe@HuntersGreen.org" for your mail account, and any e-mail to you arriving at that address would be automatically forwarded to another address where you normally receive your e-mail.  In other words, if your primary e-mail address were "John_Doe@comcast.net", you could have all e-mail arriving at John.Doe@HuntersGreen.org forwarded instead to John_Doe@comcast.net.

If you wish to have a mail forwarding account set up for you, .
